Mandarin Duck

A drake painted like a folding screen, paddling through East Asian temple ponds as a living symbol of devotion. So extravagantly patterned it looks like a costume someone forgot to take off.

Introduced, self-sustaining feral populations established in Great Britain (~7,000 birds) and parts of Western Europe (France, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Austria), plus small feral groups in North America (e.g. Sonoma County, California).
