Burung kicau (Songbirds)
Red-billed Leiothrix
Leiothrix lutea
- epik
- 65 km/h
- Risiko rendah
A pocket-sized firework of the Himalayan undergrowth, sung into cages across half the world for its tireless warble. Wild flocks still flit through the bamboo, flashing orange throats like struck matches.
- Populasi
- common across native range; trapped heavily for the cagebird trade
- Habitat
- Dense undergrowth, bamboo thickets, and shrubby understory in subtropical broadleaf and pine forests, including secondary growth and gardens; found from near sea level up to roughly 3,400 m elevation in its native range.
- Fakta menarik
- Despite its widespread nicknames "Pekin Robin" and "Japanese Nightingale," the Red-billed Leiothrix is neither native to Japan nor a true robin or nightingale — it's a babbler (family Leiothrichidae) from the Himalayas and China whose popularity as a cage bird led to introduced, self-sustaining populations as far away as Hawaii and Réunion.
- Sebaran
- Native to southern and eastern China and the Himalayan region, including northern India, Nepal, Bhutan, northern Myanmar, and parts of Tibet/northern Indochina. Introduced and established (mainly via cage-bird escapes) in the Hawaiian Islands, Japan, Réunion, and parts of Western Europe (France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, with limited/failed establishment in Great Britain).
- Makanan
- Omnivorous: gleans invertebrates from foliage and dead wood (flies, moths/caterpillars, wasps/bees, spiders, millipedes, mollusks) and eats fruit (berries, papaya, guava, strawberries) and seeds, shifting toward more fruit when insects are scarce.
