A voice in the dwarf bamboo, almost never a bird. Heard ringing across Taiwan's alpine slopes, it gives up its silhouette only for the patient.

- Habitat
- High-elevation grassland, shrubland, and bamboo/fern/grass undergrowth near the treeline in Taiwan's mountains (roughly 1,000-3,680 m, occasionally down to 100 m in winter); also uses disturbed/arable margins. Does not normally occur in closed forest, though it is described as deciduous/coniferous woodland with thick undergrowth.
