Verditer Flycatcher
Eumyias thalassinus
- tidak umum
- 48 km/h
- Risiko rendah
An impossible shade of cool blue against the green of a foothill clearing — sits straight-backed on a snag, sallies after a midge, returns to the same twig. The color of a clean morning sky given feathers.
- Populasi
- The species is widespread; populations are large but locally seasonal.
- Habitat
- Broadleaved evergreen and montane forest, forest edges, and secondary growth, from near sea level up to roughly 2,500-3,000 m elevation; also uses gardens and well-wooded human-modified landscapes, especially on migration/in winter.
- Fakta menarik
- Unlike most Old World flycatchers, which sally for insects from mid-story perches, the Verditer Flycatcher habitually forages above the forest canopy and likes to perch conspicuously on electric wires or exposed treetop branches.
- Sebaran
- South and Southeast Asia: breeds from northern Pakistan (Murree Hills) discontinuously through the Himalayas to northeastern India, southern/central China, Myanmar, Thailand and Indochina; non-breeding range extends south to central/southern India, Bangladesh, and further into Southeast Asia; a separate resident subspecies (E. t. thalassoides) occupies southern Myanmar, Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra and (rarely) Borneo.
- Makanan
- Primarily small flying invertebrates (bees, beetles, grasshoppers and other insects) taken on the wing by sallying from an exposed perch; supplements with ripe berries, particularly outside the breeding season.
