Hantu masa lalu (Ghosts of the Past)
Javan Lapwing
Vanellus macropterus
- selestial
- 90 km/h
- Kritis
A long-legged wader of Java's wide grass deltas, marked by two impossible yellow wattles. Last seen in 1940 and nowhere since, despite the fields it loved still being walked.
- Populasi
- Unknown; no confirmed individuals since the last widely accepted record in June 1940, with unconfirmed local reports as recently as 2004/2013. It is considered Critically Endangered (Possibly Extinct) rather than Extinct, precisely because remote Javan/Sundaic wetlands remain under-surveyed; if any birds survive, the population is presumed extremely small.
- Habitat
- Steppe-like freshwater/brackish marshes, wet grasslands and mudflats in river deltas and behind coastal sand dunes, favoring drier marsh fringes during the rainy season.
- Fakta menarik
- The Javan Lapwing is one of the world's most enigmatic "lost" birds: with no fully confirmed record since June 1940 but unconfirmed villager reports as recently as the 2000s/2010s, it is deliberately classified as Critically Endangered (Possibly Extinct) rather than formally Extinct, to avoid prematurely writing off a species in an under-surveyed landscape (the "Romeo error").
- Sebaran
- Endemic to the island of Java, Indonesia, historically known from lowland sites on both the north coast (west Java) and south coast (east Java); unconfirmed historical reports suggest possible occurrence on Belitung Island.
- Makanan
- Aquatic insect larvae, water bugs, beetles, snails, and seeds of aquatic plants, gleaned from marsh edges and mudflats.
- Ukuran
- 0,28 m
- Bentang sayap
- 0,68 m
