Crested Ibis
Nipponia nippon
- selestial
- 90 km/h
- Terancam punah
Vanished from Japan's wild skies in 2003 and returned to them in 2008 from a single Chinese bloodline. Carries the color of dawn on its wings.
- Populasi
- ~330 mature individuals (global population ~500 in 2006). The real-world 2020s population (wild + managed, China/Japan/Korea) is substantially larger due to sustained captive-breeding and reintroduction, but no updated global figure supersedes 2018.
- Habitat
- Forests with tall trees for nesting and roosting, adjacent to wetlands, rice paddies, riverbanks, and mountain streams used for feeding; occupies roughly 470-1,300 m elevation, breeding higher and wintering lower near human settlements
- Fakta menarik
- The species was believed extinct in the wild until a single population of just seven individuals was rediscovered in a remote valley in Shaanxi, China in 1981, and every crested ibis alive today — wild or captive, in China, Japan, or South Korea — descends from that handful of survivors.
- Sebaran
- Historically across temperate East Asia (central/eastern China, the Korean Peninsula, Japan including Hokkaido, Taiwan, and the Russian Far East). Now extirpated from nearly all of that historic range; the sole naturally-occurring wild population survives in Yangxian County, Shaanxi Province, China, with reintroduced/released populations established in Japan (Sado Island, Noto Peninsula) and South Korea
- Makanan
- Carnivorous; forages in shallow water and mud (rarely deeper than its leg length) probing with its long downcurved bill for fish (carp, loaches, eels), frogs, newts, river crabs, crayfish, aquatic insects and larvae, snails, mussels, and earthworms
- Ukuran
- 0,75 m
- Bentang sayap
